This podcast includes conversation between National Fellowship of Raceway Ministries Executive Director, Roger Marsh, and Raceway Ministries Martinsville team leader, Tim Byrd. The two talk some about the rich history of Martinsville Speedway and Raceway Ministries Martinsville, and also discuss how the recent NASCAR race weekend went (April 2021), which included numerous rain delays and the challenging ministry opportunities that emerged as a result. Tim also describes, from his perspective, some of the key elements that have allowed Raceway Ministries Martinsville to continue with effective outreach at the speedway — for almost 30 years! Perhaps most importantly, Marsh and Byrd dialogue about getting involved in ministry opportunities that don’t always “feel like” or “look like” ministry opportunities at a speedway. Especially with COVID / pandemic restrictions and protocols in place, ministry teams are assisting with “guest services”-type activities, which can cause reluctance on the part of some ministry volunteers, simply because those activities don’t have a ministry / evangelism “feel” to them. Byrd argues, on the other hand, that those activities can and often do turn into rich opportunities to serve people and to share Christ.
